Enough Steps to Make up for Yesterday!
October 11, 2021
I'm addicted to the cheeses and olives! And breakfast should
always have tomatoes and cucumbers!
It's a gorgeous, blue-sky day and there's a lot of walking to do to make up for yesterday! I'm fully fortified with a Turkish breakfast and I've brought the rest of my toast back for my non-breakfast eater!!
There's a lot of conversation; but eventually we venture out to see what the world has in store for us today! We're going to explore the other end of Batumi Boulevard, starting at Ali and Nino, and working our way southwest. There is our espresso/latte stand for starters and a couple of tourist traps beckon for comparison shopping. A couple of young men have peacocks that they are offering to tourists for photo ops. One of them keeps bathing the birds in the drinking fountain to keep them cool. I don't risk incurring their wrath by grabbing a shot!
If we don't find any place else to shop, we can always come back here another day.
There is lots of stopping for photo ops and conversation and we reach one of our objectives, the dolphinarium. It is closed to day but we learn that the show tomorrow is at 4:00. And behind that is 6 May Park, a lovely area with a large lake and rides for the kids. It is one of a string of parks along the Boulevard, just a stone's throw from the Black Sea.
We were also hoping to find the Dancing Fountains. There is a strip of activity sites, fenced in with tiered seating for various sports like volleyball and soccer. Perhaps if we'd continued on we might have found the fountains; but they are supposedly best seen at night when they are illuminated and if we're coming back for the afternoon dolphin show, we can probably see them then.
We turn inland and kind of, sort of, head for home. There are lots of clothing shops and many are having sales of big-named brands. After a lot of searching Ammar finds a Puma jacket he likes andd the price is right. We're also looking for PJs for Mohammad's kids. He's "minding the store" for us and it's the least we can do; but I guess kids in Georgia don't wear PJs!! So far we haven't found any!
When we finally look at the time it is after five! No wonder we're so hungry! All our big plans go out the window and the closest, fastest thing is Mickey Ds!! I can't believe we're doing this again but I'm starving and oh my it tastes good! Maybe we'll do something later; but right now, after our 13,000 plus steps, (5.1 miles) sustenance is upper most! I'm sure glad that off-line map thing works! We didn't need to go any more steps out of our way!
Coming home we run into the lady who is in charge of housekeeping at the Golden Palace. Or at least she had the bearing of someone in charge! We exchange pleasantries and big smiles. I think she gets a kick out of my stuffed kitty cat! She always puts her on the bed!
Blue skies are such a contract to yesterday's grays.
