Miles of Fish! (The rest of October 10th!)

 October 10, 2021

My tummy thinks oatmeal with fruit and nuts and tea

is a better choice for this morning!

Not great weather for being outside;  lovely for staying in!

I was finally able to order our train tickets back to Tbilisi!
But.even four days out there weren't any upstairs seats available!

Today is mostly a day for rest and catching up; but the evening is for FISH!  It turns out that the place we went for dinner does, indeed, have a bone fide fish market with it!  This time we venture inside the industrial space and are greeted by rows and rows of fish mongers with their iced goods on full display.

I have to admit that I'm overwhelmed!  My experience with fish is to ask the nice man at Publix for that lovely salmon fillet, please, or to snatch the package of frozen tilapia.  I wander around taking pictures and trying to ignore the ones that are obviously trying to extract oxygen from the unfriendly air around them.

Ammar thinks that because I'm from Florida, I know all about this stuff.  Wrong!  I was content to take some pictures and go to one of the restaurants with a menu.  But the way this is supposed to work is that you select your fish (or shrimp!!). Pay for it. Have it cleaned. And take it to one of the restaurants to have it cooked to your order!

That's our salmon being weighed (above) and prepped (below).

Somehow we wind up with a kilo of shrimp and a huge salmon. It appears that each fish monger has a favorite restaurant, and ours points us to a young man who leads us to The Blue Wave where we are relieved of our fish and shown to a table.  Ammar orders a Sprite and I have a glass of what is now my usual wine. Out of all the wineries in the country, and there are MANY!, I think it's amazing that now two restaurants in a row have had my wine!

Soon the salad and shrimp arrive and both are delicious.  They are followed in short order by the salmon and it's every bit as large on the platter as it was in the bag!!  This evening I have a little feline friend!  She enjoys the salmon as much as I do!

Wine on tap!  This is my kind of country!

Apparently my favorite salad is for Georgians!

And there's my wine, Kindzmauauli semi-sweet red!
Maybe I didn't need the second glass; but it's so good!

They were so good I nearly didn't get a picture!

It's pretty hard to hear!

It's really delicious!  But I miss the eggplant slices and the roasted peppers from Fishlandia.

And she has a friend but she doesn't share!

Tonight it is much easier to find a cab and he knows exactly where our hotel is! And this time Ammar got us a newly magnetized room key BEFORE we go upstairs!

    1. The ticket site if a bugger! If you aren't super quick it times you out and whatever seats you had chosen are not available when you go back! I thought I'd secured the last two upstairs and then, poof, they were gone! We might get lucky when we get there.

    2. I'm sure you've got the smell exactly right! So sorry about Smoky!
Everybody here smokes and in Batumi they are pretty haphazard about masking. This isn't true so much in Tbilisi, maybe because it is the capital.
