Sad to Leave Batumi!

 October 13, 2021

Best make the most of today before it's back to Tbilisi in the morning!  My favorite bartender/waiter is back today!  That's a treat! I ask him for the menu with the pictures, thinking I'll find out what the Israeli breakfast looks like; but I think I'd better try the Georgian breakfast this morning, since our hotel for the next week has a glorious buffet, but not this!  It appears to be two poached eggs awash in a somewhat spicy tomato sauce with onions, peppers, and a bit of cheese.  And little slices of Jalapeno which I carefully move aside! Which isn't to say that I don't eat every drop!  And that crusty, crispy toast!  I bring some back for Ammar, 'cause I'm a good doobee and because I can't possibly eat four slices of it!

Fun with shapes in the early morning!

Can you guess which floor has the casino?

We've got a little shopping to do here in this tourist town, and return to the Boulevard for our regular coffee stop where our friendly barista is back on duty, and then on to the shop we liked the best.  And we finally see the ChaCha Tower!  There used to be a ChaCha fountain that actually dispensed the liquor;  but I don't think that happens any more.  Oh well - probably not a great idea first thing in the morning, anyway!

Just to give an idea of how slowing they transition !

It's fun to wander the streets and notice that there is a whole lot of street art!  And photo ops!

Old folks need lovin', too!

Back to our room and I have to deal with my suitcase!  Ammar took care of his while I was at breakfast and he's cheating by throwing away some of his clothes!  They always say to travel with old clothes so you don't have to bring everything home with you;  but I've never known anyone who actually did it!

While I'm packing and doing a little researach, he's gone to say good-bye to the Princess Casino.  I think he's just going to drink their coffee;  but I'm not there and it's not my business!  I have other very good friends who worship at the same alter, so what can I say?   (You know who you are!)

We were looking for the Piazza Square, which we can see from our window;  but it was hot and the bags were heavy.  Maybe we'll find it after our last trip to the Fish Market!  I'm all in favor of returning to Fishlandia tonight.  I loved the veggies and the seasonings they used on the salmon.  And oh that salad with the ground walnuts!!  Or maybe we'll try someplace new!  We'll see!

Well, it's been several hours and I've run out of creative time sinks, so I'm going to check out the Piazza myself.  I've sent a text and maybe we'll connect.

It's not very many blocks and the huge mosaic is quite lovely, as are the churches and wall art that I see along the way!

Ammar is waiting on the front steps of the Palace and a cab is on the way to take us to dinner.  Surprise!  Ammar was given seed funds by the casino and dinner tonight is on him!  Now I feel like a jerk for being such a brat!

Let's play "Name That Fish"!  Anyone know?

I just love fire!!

We get a kilo of large shrimp and two (I have no idea what they are!) fish and take them to Fishlandia.  Ammar says they are vinnis - but I don't know what that means in English!  Whatever they are, they are a lovely, not-fishy, easy to devour meal, along with a local beer for me, Kazbegi, a glass of semi-sweet red for Ammar, some bread and a delightful white sauce that our young waiter recommended.  Sunset is nearly visible from here, too!

Those are all fish restaurants along the left side!

This is the super-classy photo-copied menu I mentioned the first night!

Blue velvet sky! You can barely make out the horizon!

A cab is waiting for us as we exit and we're home in a flash to shower and such.  I'm going to blog a little and get some extra sleep.  Ammar is going to see if his lucky streak continues.  This is his last opportunity, since we didn't encounter any casinos in Tbilisi and there certainly aren't any in Jordan!!

That green smear doesn't show up in the second shot, only a moment later!
